You can be an Urban Gardener, too.

Learn urban gardening techniques and resources specific to South Florida.

We have the best growing climate in the US. At the same time, the plants of most food we purchase at the supermarket will not grow in our climate. That’s a paradox that can lead to confusion and frustration as we endeavor to become more self-sufficient. Growing in small spaces in the middle of an urban heat island with iguanas is another set of challenges. Complaining neighbors, zoning and code enforcement create obstacles, too.

But the result is necessary and achievable. It is possible to have more control over our food supply while improving the health of our bodies, our communities and our earth. Let’s be strong!

The Urban Gardener

Backed by Made in Broward, The Urban Gardener is a website dedicated to assisting gardeners in South Florida by supplying knowhow and resources.

Visit our Gardens

The best way to understand what is possible in the urban garden is to visit one or more of our food forests. We experiment with what grows well in our South Florida climate in a pesticide and chemical fertilizer-free environment.

Learn More

Every year, we offer a 12-week Permaculture Design Course (PDC) to cover the topics needed to get started with permaculture gardening in South Florida. Click on the link below for full class details and to register.

Save the Bees

Honey Bees, solitary bees, and other pollinators are essential to our food security but they are under threat from lack of food, pesticide use, habitat loss, and disease.
